Police Log: Shots at a Home and a Flim-Flam Scam

The following is an excerpt from the Wilmington Police log. Where charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

The following is an excerpt from the Wilmington Police log from Friday, August 10 to Thursday, August 12.

Friday, August 10

9:16 a.m.: Larceny was reported at Dunkin' Donuts on Main Street as officers received a call for a flim-flam scam with a $50 bill. The suspect, who was reported to be a black male of an unknown age, then reportedly pulled the same scam at Sonny's Mobil on the Run. In past flim-flam scams, suspects buy items at the cash register, then distract the store clerk in to giving them their change and the original payment back.

10:05 a.m.: Police received a report of a party being unruly and breaking things on Salem Street. The man left the area on foot after allegedly fighting with his girlfriend on the phone. Officers issued a no trespass order to the man and advised the calling parties of their rights of protection.

9:21 p.m.: A hit and run occurred sometime in the previous hour on Middlesex Ave. It appeared that a vehicle parked next to a truck pulled off the truck's bumper, but there is no other damage to the vehicle.

10:42 p.m.: On Woburn Street, a caller reported that two windows were just shot out by a BB gun. The rear passenger window of the vehicle at the home was also shot out. There were 25 or more holes in the siding of the home, a broken window, and a door's glass were also shot out. It appeared the damage was done from a vehicle on Crystal Road.

Saturday, August 11

2:16 a.m.: Multiple callers on Chestnut Street reported a vehicle was off the road with occupants attempting to get the car out of the mud. A hydrant was struck at the location, though it was still in its place with no water leaking. A citation was issued to the driver for speed greater than reasonable.

4:43 p.m.: A caller at a family event at Rotary Park reported that he could smell marijuana, and he was concerned due to his daughter's allergy to hemp. There was a small fire in the back yard of a Columbia Street home, and the owner was advised.

Sunday, August 12

7:42 a.m.: On Burlington Ave., an elderly male was walking outside and appeared to be confused. The caller had the male party inside their home and awaiting an officer. The man was picked up by his daughter.

12:54 p.m. A Molloy Road caller reported that sometime overnight a bottle was smashed against his garage.

7:41 p.m.: Callers on Wightman Road reported two males in the back yard possibly target shooting with an unknown weapon. The males were shooting a BB gun and put the weapon inside.

Lol, he tried to hijack the police log with his obstructionist rhetoric again? I love it!

Sensationalism again Matt, huge difference between a BB gun and a REAL gun

I appreciate you checking in, Gone4Now. I know there is certainly a difference between a real gun and a BB gun. However, in this case there was significant damage done to the home, according to the log entry. With several windows at the home allegedly broken by at least 25 shots, it was my view that this was a newsworthy entry. It was not my intention at all to sensationalize the incident.

Matt, "Shots at home" or "BB gun shots at home". What headline describes the event more accurately? Give me a break!
