There are several solid options for Wilmington residents to exercise in town. But according to Patch readers, one local venue is on its own planet.

Planet Fitness earned the distinction of best place to work out in this week’s Best of Patch Readers’ Choice with a total of 30 votes. RMA Fitness Center was the runner up in the vote, selected 13 times by residents. Anytime Fitness also received multiple votes.

According to General Manager Kathy Healy, the gym is popular because it combines the national notoriety of the franchise with the local attention patrons need.

“It’s our judgment free zone that keeps people coming back,” said Healy. “We are here for general fitness interests, and we steer away from the bodybuilders. It’s a great non-intimidating atmosphere.”

Planet Fitness is open 24 hours a day during the, providing Wilmington residents the opportunity to work out whenever is easiest for them. On Friday nights, the gym closes at 9 p.m. and is open from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

In addition, Healy said the cost is just $10 per month with commitment, making it easy for locals to join or leave as their schedule allows.
