Armed Robbery in Reading Thursday Night

READING--According to WCVB.com, the Gulf Station on Main Street was robbed late Thursday night. No injuries were reported. The suspect was armed and believed to be the same person who recently robbed stores in Melrose, Stoneham and Woburn, WCVB.com said.

No Medical Marijuana Treatment Center in Reading, Town Meeting Says

READING--Reading Town Meeting voted 113-39 last week to prohibit any future medical marijuana treatment center from opening in town. On Nov. 6, Election Day, Massachusetts voters approved a ballot question that allows the use of marijuana for medical purposes. Reading voters supported the question by just under 60 percent, Town Manager Peter Hechenbleikner told Town Meeting.

North Reading Hiker Injured in N.H.

NORTH READING--According to WCVB.com, North Reading woman Gayle Carroll was hiking the White Arrow Trail on Mount Monadnock in New Hampshire when she suffered a leg injury. Rescue crews performed first aid before she was transported to the hospital.

Boston Man Charged With Assaulting, Injuring Pregnant Woman

TEWKSBURY--A 26-year-old Boston man is facing multiple felony charges after allegedly holding a pregnant woman against her will in a Tewksbury motel and then beating her when she tried to escape.

Mark Silvia, of 39 Boylston St, was arrested after police responded to a 911 call from a guest at the Motel Caswell, reporting a possible domestic assault in the adjacent room.

According to the Tewksbury Police report, further investigation revealed that Silvia had held the victim against her will in the motel room for over two-and-a-half hours. During this time, Silvia allegedly verbally and physically assaulted the victim, slapping her in the face.
