Updated Monday at 2:45 p.m.: Moped Accident Sends Billerica Man to Hospital

Massachusetts State Police and Wilmington Police reconstructing the scene Saturday afternoon.

Massachusetts State Police and were on scene of a serious moped crash Saturday afternoon, recreating the accident for investigators.

At 1:46 p.m., Wilmington Police were called to 316 Lowell St., across from the , for a report of a motor vehicle collision. The call was reportedly received from an Action Ambulance unit who was already transporting a patient when paramedics witnessed the accident. 

The patient, Michael Derochers, 19, of Billerica, was reportedly unconscious and unresponsive, but did have a pulse when he was medflighted to the hospital by officials.

State Police officials recreated the scene at 2:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon, but both lanes of traffic were still open to motorists.

On Monday, Wilmington police said Derochers was driving the moped on Lowell Street behind John Fraser, 79, of Reading, when a black SUV turned left into the Mobile station.

When the vehicle turned, Fraser slowed down and Derochers collided with the rear passenger side of the Chrysler, according to police.

The accident is still under investigation, but no citations have been issued at this time.

Police were unable to provide any update on the Derochers' condition, and said they have not yet been able to speak with him about the incident.
