Model Train Open House Among Weekend Activities

It’s Thursday, and you’ve got no idea what you’ll do for the weekend.

Patch is coming to the rescue. We’ve got the best bets for your done-work-outta-here time. Check our picks for the activities to hit and new bars/restaurants/shops to explore.

1. HI-RAILERS MODEL TRAIN OPEN HOUSE

Where/When: Boston Metro Hi-Railers, Saturday at 10 a.m. sharp

Why Go: There will be displays for families, kids, and serious model train enthusiasts. Includes a display popular in department stores in the 50's and also a special setup for young kids that will allow them to operate trains and special accessories. The event will feature a rededication ceremony with Wilmington Selectman Michael Champoux.

Pricing: $5 for families, $2 fir adults and chidren over 12, children under 10 are free.

2. BROADWAY SHOWSTOPPERS

Where/When: Wilmington United Methodist Church, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.-12 p.m.

Why Go: Since Monday begins April vacation for local students, we'll count this event as a weekend activity. The Children's Theatre Workshop of Wilmington offers a cacation workshop for April Vacation called "Broadway Showstoppers!" Children in 2-8 grade, ages 7-13, can participate. To register, visit www.ctwkids.org.

Pricing: $150 for weeklong workshop.

3. SATURDAY PLAYHOUSE

Where/When: WCTV, Saturday at 11:00 a.m.

Why Go: This week WCTV will be planning another episode of Saturday Playhouse 10, the award-winning children's program, by kids for kids that gives them the chance to see what it's like to put on a real television program. All kids 9-13 are welcome to participate while teens 14-18 can come to be a part of the technical crew. No experience necessary and it's a great way to earn community service hours.

Pricing: Free.

4. START BLOGGING FOR WILMINGTON PATCH

Where/When: Your house, all day, every day.

Why Go: If you have opinions on what's happening in town, there's no better way to express them than through Wilmington Patch. And while you have some down time this weekend, you can start blogging in our Local Voices section. Just log on to the homepage and click "Start a blog," and we'll help you get set up.

5. READ PATCH

Where/When: Your house, all day, every day.

Why Go: Even on weekends, we've got you covered. This weekend we'll have a variety of weekly features along with stories like a boys tennis coverage from Friday.
