Lauren Azevedo, a member of the WHS Class of 2012, took center stage before the Wildcats won the Division 2 state title with a 4-0 victory over Franklin, singing a flawless version of the National Anthem.

The Philadelphia Flyers had Kate Smith who inspired them to victory by singing God Bless America.
Wilmington has Lauren Azevedo.
A champion singer for a championship hockey team.
What a way to carry that high note.
GO LAUREN !!!!!!!!!!!!
If the voters decide to get rid of the current hack selectmen who do nothing but rubber stamp the wasting of taxpayer money I'd love for Lauren to sing God Bless America at the new selectmen swearing in.

Must you bring your selectman grudge into everything?!? You should have just stopped at being happy for Lauren!! Lauren and I were friends while we were both in high school. I personally do not appreciate you using this article as yet another soapbox for you to spread your agenda.

Later, from December 11, 1969,[6] through the early 1970s, the playing of Smith singing the song before many of home games of the National Hockey League's Philadelphia Flyers brought it renewed popularity, as well as a reputation for being a "good luck charm" to the Flyers,[6] long before it became a staple of nationwide sporting events.[6] The Flyers even brought Smith in to perform live before Game 6 of the 1974 Stanley Cup Finals on May 19, 1974, and the Flyers won the Cup that day.[6][7]

Now Kevin...I usually read your comments and just laugh them off...but come on...will not ruin this moment for this little girl and her family by dragging in your comments on the selectman. Just clam up already and let her enjoy her moment in the sun. Great job Lauren!! Some day we will hear your name being said that the Grammy awards!!!
