High School Students View Play About Bullying
Deana's Educational Theater performs The Lesson on Friday.
Not everything students learn in school comes with a teacher standing in front of the classroom.
On Friday, Wilmington High School students will learn about an important topic in a different way.
Deana's Educational Theater will perform The Lesson at 8:15 a.m. today, exploring the relationships of three students dealing with the impact of cyberbullying.
The play features many common problems that occur in the lives teenagers in the age of Facebook, text messages and other new means of bullying.
Wilmington has gone to many lengths to prevent bullying, including a parent information night and other events throughout the year.
"We obviously spend a lot of our focus on the academic side of things," said Superintendent of Schools Joanne Benton. "This is about the social and emotional aspect, as well as strategies to make good decisions."

The problem is that the Internet is a safe haven for bullies because of the anonymity. There is not a more cowardly way to bully someone then from behind a curtain. Parents are the key to solving this. They need to get involved and be part of the solution – not part of the problem. If parents feared their child being the bully or passing along the material as much as they care when their child is a victim, it would be a huge step forward.
But how do you know if your child is involved in cyberbullying? You need to monitor their Internet activity. Monitoring software like our PC Pandora records everything that happens on the PC. If your child is a victim, you will know; if they are a bully, you will know. Check us out at http://pcpandora.com to see how you can be an active part of the solution instead of a passive part of the problem.

It is more important that kids should know the possible result of bullying, the more they know the better they become aware of it. While reading an article on a blog, it mentioned that there was a service I could use to track my kids to be sure they were always in safe places. At the bottom it said I could follow the site anationofmoms and be entered for a drawing of 6 months free of the service. Not bad! http://anationofmoms.com/2011/08/protect-your-family-giveaway.html
