Fourth Organizers Ask for Help Preserving Grass
Fourth of July Committee asks residents not to spread out blankets on Town Common too early on Tuesday.
Wilmington residents will be packing Town Common early on Tuesday for the fireworks display that serves as the finale of a week jam packed with family events. But event organizers are asking residents not to set up shop too soon.
Fourth of July Committee chairman Scott Garrant asked residents to be considerate of the grass on Town Common when they make plans for Tuesday night's fireworks.
"Due to the high temperatures and concern for the grass on the Town Common, blankets cannot be placed on the Common until after 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 3," said Garrant. "If you are attending the events on Monday, blankets may be used but, if you plan to leave your blanket on the Common, it must be left folded and placed on top of a chair after the conclusion of this evening's events."
There were already a handful of chairs and blankets left on Town Common on Monday afternoon in anticipation of the upcoming events.
Though there is a Knights of Columbus breakfast on Wednesday morning, the majority of the events are scheduled to be completed by the end of the fireworks display on Tuesday night.
Monday night is the three-on-three basketball tournament, a performance by Four on the Floor, and the hospital bed race, which is sponsored by Wilmington Patch.
Then on Tuesday, the week essentially wraps up with Strawberry Shortcake from the Chamber of Commerce, BBQ chicken from the Kiwanis Club, a performance by the Windham Community Band, and the Spectacular Fireworks Display.
