Final Chance to Nominate Wilmington's People of the Year

Let us know by Saturday who you think should win Athlete of the Year, Person of the Year and Teacher of the Year.

We've had several nominations for who made this a year to remember in Wilmington, and there's still time to make your selection.

As we look to prepare our Athlete of the Year, Person of the Year and Teacher of the Year articles for next week, we are looking for input from our readers.

Among the entries we've had for the Person of the Year are Paul Cardello for his work with iPods for Wounded Veterans, Lou Cimaglia for his contributions to Veterans Services, and now retired Town Manager Mike Caira for finishing up decades of service to the town.

Several residents also nominated Kevin MacDonald, who has clashed with town officials throughout the year. MacDonald has been a key figure in the appeal of the Wilmington High School project, which is currently in Superior Court.

There are also plenty of great choices for Teacher of the Year, as well as Athlete of the Year.

To make your selection, all you have to do is tell us who you select for each category in the comments section below, or in the comments section of our original Year in Review article.

If you don't feel comfortable making your nomination in the comments section, you can also e-mail Local Editor Matt Schooley at matthew.schooley@patch.com.

We will let you know who Patch selected early next week.

I'm sorry but did Kevin nominate himself? I would be absolutely disgusted if Kevin got any sort of recognition for what he has done. The only recognition he deserves is the biggest PAIN IN THE A** for what he has done to the children of this town by delaying the high school project for his own personal agenda. Frankly that deserves NO recognition and to give him some is like feeding the beast.

Melissa,
I am simply relaying the nominations I have come across. Below is a comment that was written on the original article.

"For its Person of the Year, Time Magazine has picked heroes and villians, leaving the readers to determine for themselves which way to characterize them. For that reason, for 2012 I would select Mr MacDonald without hesitation."
