FedEx Package Filled With Marijuana Leads to Arrest

Lowell resident Chhon Kang was arrested after police reported set up a controlled delivery of a package that originally arrived in Wilmington.

After a suspicious package was delivered to Wilmington, Lowell Police set up a controlled delivery and made a drug arrest for the man who signed for the package, according to a report in The Lowell Sun.

The Sun reported that a brown package arrived at that smelled like marijuana, and that as a result the company called police. Officers reportedly discovered that the package contained about four pounds of marijuana in sealed bags.

As a result, Lowell Police set up a controlled delivery to "Bob Burke" at 462 Wilder Street in Lowell, the newspaper said. Though no one at the home lived at the address, Chhon Kang allegedly answered the door and signed for the package.

Following a search of the home, police discovered another package containing five pounds of the same drug, and Kang was arrested for possession of Class D drugs with intent to distribute, the newspaper reported, also adding that Kang pleaded not guilty.

According to The Sun report, defense attorney said holes in the prosecution's case include that the package was damaged when it arrived and that it was addressed to someone other than Kang.
