Farewell Fundraiser Planned at WHS Gym
With the gymnasium scheduled to be demolished over February vacation, the Wilmington Athletic Alumni and Friends are planning an event for Tuesday.
The Wilmington girls basketball team will officially be the last high school team to hit the hardwood inside Lawrence Cushing Memorial Gymasium. But the Lady Wildcats won't be the last players to hit the floor.
On Tuesday, the Wildcat Athletic Alumni and Friends will host a fundraiser to support the purchase of new banners for the gymnasium that will be built when the current gym is demolished over February vacation.
Wakefield visits town for the final game ever at the gym at 7 p.m., and at following the tilt, scheduled for around 9 p.m., Wildcat supporters can pay $10 apiece to play on the court one last time.
Teams of six are invited to play in six minute scrimmages that night, with all proceeds going towards the purchase of the banners.
Check back with Wilmington Patch for more reaction to the gym's final days.

Wildcat supporters are paying $10 to play on the gym floor for one last time? Could this be the top insult of the year to these tax payers? New Flash: Wildcat supporters fund the schools system with their taxes. They paid for this gym and for the next 25 years with pay for a school and a gym if these hack town officials get away with it. The complete and thorough audit should be ordered for all town finances.

Great idea. I would like a piece of the floor for a gift to a teacher. Who should I speak to about that. Thank you!

Didn't this happen last year when the girls played the last game. Where does this money go? Who comes up with this insane idea to pay $10 to play on that floor one last time. What is so special about the floor and gym? Is it Kevin getting thrown out of many town meetings or the tremendous year the boys hoop team is having. I think there should be an investigation to the finances of all these final festivities.

I think everyone knows Richard is Kevin. He made a mistake posting the same thing under the two different handles. Good job, good effort.

Dick, maybe the money goes to highschool athletic program, maybe it goes to the specific teams, but here is a novel thought. If you don't like the idea don't attend, but don't shoot down ideas and functions that are being held to raise money for highschool sports. The floor might be special to students who have played on it. Dick all you have to do is check with the school comm. all fund raising for schools has to go thru them. I'm sure the boys basketball team doesn't need to be reminded they are having a down year, but it shows how much class you have by mentioning that. Pretty pathetic person when you comment in a negative manner on fundraising.
