Cross Country Team Earns Sweep of Watertown

Both boys and girls run past visitors.

The power was out around Wilmington on Wednesday, but the Wildcat cross country teams put together a lights out performance in the fall sunshine.

Callie O'Connell led the way with a first place run of 20:55 and Sydnee Russo followed closely behind at 21:32 in second place to help pace Wilmington to a 42-19 victory over visiting Watertown.

Also performing well was Keara MacCorkle, whose time of 22:02 was good for fourth place points. Kate Richards notched fifth with a time of 22:05 on the 5k course.

The boys team also tallied a victory, though it was in much closer fashion. By afternoon's end, the Wildcats snuck back Watertown with a 28-27 win.

Erik Alatalo mustered a personal record of 17:08 as the top overall runner and Steve Hala grabbed third overall not far behind his teammate as he completed the course in 17:25.

The teams next race on Tuesday as they travel to Melrose.
