Demolition at Wilmington High School began this week.

After years of discussion, there is finally evidence that a new high school will be built on Church Street.

Demolition of the Wilmington High School gymnasium began this week with students gone for February vacation, and on Wednesday the building began to come down brick by brick.

For interested residents, pieces of the basketball court will be sold individually, with proceeds going to pay for the September 11 memorial that will be built at the new school.

I just hope this was the right decision to make at this time!

Dear Editor Schooley, Could you please tell us what the cost of the demolition contract is and what other INVITATION ONLY contractors were asked for proposals for the demolition? What are the bids for the demolition from everyone? Could you tell us if there are separate contracts for the gymnasium and the remaining school structure?

Hi Kevin, I'll be glad to look into that and find those numbers. They are public record.
