Blizzard Watch Upgraded to Warning in Wilmington

White out conditions are expected as the storm intensifies in town and across the state.

What began as a blizzard watch for the Wilmington area has now been upgraded to a blizzard warning

The National Weather Service issued the warning for the majority of Eastern Massachusetts Thursday afternoon, as it anticipates about 2 feet of snow to descend upon the area Friday into Saturday.

"White out conditions are anticipated as roads become snow-covered by the Friday evening commute," the warning states. "Strong north-northeast winds are anticipated with gusts up to around 60 miles per hour, resulting in blowing and drifting of snow. Damage to trees and structures along with scattered power outages are anticipated."

Residents can expect the potential of snow falling at 3-to-4 inches per hour and wind gusts of more than 20 miles per hour.

Department of Public Works assistant superintendent Jamie Magaldi said it's difficult to predict how much snow the town will get. But he did say workers will be ready for whatever Mother Nature throws at them.

"We can’t control how much snow falls," said Magaldi. "But we will deal with it as fast as we possibly can and get town back to running condition. We just ask for patience from residents."

This is a classic example of an absence of leadership. We are paying a superintendent $175,000 per year and she can't figure out that putting students at risk is a bad idea. Many other communities have already cancelled school. Parents should be given enough notice to make plans for the care of their small children especially those parents that must work. Wake up Benton, cancel school and protect the kids !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
