Wilmington Community Television is proud to announce the 2012 youth summer program schedule! This year, in celebration of WCTV’s 25th Anniversary, WCTV will be offering free membership and free summer programs to all Wilmington kids ages nine and older. With programs ranging from music videos to computer classes, there is sure to be something for everyone!
For newcomers to WCTV, take “Intro to Camera” during the first full week of Wilmington summer vacation. This program is for any kids who have ever had an interest in video production, television, or WCTV. During this one-hour lesson, students will learn how to use WCTV equipment, set up shots, and produce a video. With a maximum of 10 students per session, this course will meet Wednesday June 20th from 10-11 a.m., June 20th from 12-1 p.m., Friday June 22 from 10-11 a.m., and June 22 from 12-1 p.m. Attendance at only one of these sessions will qualify students to take any of the other summer programs. Students who have partaken in WCTV youth programs in the past have already covered the material in this course, and can register for other summer programs without taking this one.
In the week leading up to the 4th of July, the youth program will kick into high gear will an all inclusive lip dub project! This lip dub, a lip-synching music video, will involve music, dancing, storyboarding, and camera work. All are welcome to participate in this project which will involve a planning meeting from 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. on June 27 and the actual shoot from 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. June 29th. Attendance at both sessions is necessary to participate in the project.
If your child likes computers, the Friday program “Tech Teens (and Tweens)” may be the program for them! Each session will feature new software commonly used in TV production, with two weeks per session. From 10-11 A.M. on Fridays from June 29th to August 3rd kids ages nine and up will learn computer skills and create cool projects! Session 1 will introduce Adobe Premiere Editing Software, Session 2 will feature Final Cut Pro Editing Software, and Session 3 will present Adobe Photoshop. Classes are limited to four students per session due to space, so be sure to sign up quickly!
Another weekly program, “Movie Madness” can unlock the inner movie star in your child! Designed for students ages 9-12, this program will feature fun and creativity in the making of a motion picture! Whether it’s writing scripts, acting, directing, or producing, there’s sure to be something your child will love. This program is capped off at 10 students, and will meet from 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. Wednesdays July 11-August 8.
Older students are invited to make their vacation a “Studio Summer”. This program will bring teens ages 12-16 into WCTV’s Studio B to learn how to use the robotic cameras, state-of-the-art graphics system, audio boards, and lighting equipment. Students in this program will also produce their own studio show, complete with interviews and credits. This program will meet from 12:30-2 p.m. Wednesdays between July 11th and August 8th and will be limited to 10 participants.
